Weight: Myrrh resin about 50g approx.
This resin in collected by local farmers in Northern Somalia. We bring in the myrrh regularly to the UK so as to keep our stock fresh. In the past we have stocked and sold more "purified" versions of myrrh that come in a kind of powder or much smaller pieces. But then we tried this much more natural and "rawer" version (Ie. it is as collected by the farmers direct from the trees).
We found the scent was so much fresher and we preferred it a lot. We think this is partly because the myrrh that has been more treated can be older or can be very dusty. The disadvantage of buying this natural version is that you will need to break up some of the large myrrh pieces. Sometimes this can be done by hand but with myrrh often a knife will be needed to help. But as you can see (in the second photo above) because they come in large pieces the resin inside is fresh.
We may also sell a more powdered version of myrrh if we find a kind we like the smell of. But for now this is our favourite. So we hope you enjoy it!
To burn the resin as an incense you need to have a heat source. Most people use a charcoal disc that is designed specifically for this purpose. The disc should be placed inside a heat resistant container with earth inside if required to shield the strong heat. Once alight the resin can be spooned gently placed onto the charcoal and the resin becomes an incense and the delightful aromas are released. You can then add more resin as required. Safety note: Never leave unattended. Do not place container on flammable surface.
