Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack
Information: 354 pages, paperback
They say: The two volumes of Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom have inspired a whole generation of students of the Tarot. Described by many as 'The Bible of Tarot readers', the books brought awareness of myth and modern psychology to the Tarot's ancient esoteric symbolism.
Now, for the first time, the texts for The Major Arcana and The Minor Arcana appear in one volume. To mark this special occasion, Rachel Pollack has revised and updated the book in the light of her thirty years' teaching, reading, and writing about Tarot cards. She has also written a new preface describing her own journey through the Tarot's world of symbols.
'One of the most authoritative works on the Tarot ever written. A book which encourages the diviner to perceive the deep message of the Tarot.' Caitlin Matthews, creator of the Arthurian Tarot
We say: This book, thought by many to be a definitive work on the tarot, is filled mostly with card descriptions that go into more detail than most other tarot books. Rachel Pollack describes the meanings of the cards when reversed as well as when the right way up. It should not be forgotten that the tarot should eventually lead the initiate to read intuitively from the cards and not to rely on a book for the meanings, but I feel that if this book is used wisely by those who have already learnt the basics of tarot, then it could provide a more knowledgeable backdrop onto which to lay your intuitions.
